Class Schedule

New Mexico Tech

I finally got around to a schedule that I’ll be dealing with for the rest of the semester. Though classes officially began on the 21st of August, there were a bunch of class changes and screw-ups on almost everyone’s schedule. Most people changed so they could be with their pals; others changed because they were in the wrong classes, and the rest changed simply because they could. This is no surprise; it’s second nature by now to schools that screw-ups and class changes will occur. And if a school year goes by where something to that nature does not happen… well, that school is either 1: not in the US or 2: not a school, period.

As for me, I changed because I got put in the wrong physics lab, and that’s it — no other changes. Now I have a schedule that will most extremely likely not change. Check it out:

Monday/Wednesday/Friday

Phys 121 (general physics): 9:00 - 9:50am

Math 132 (calculus II): 10:50 - 12:05pm

Eng 111 (english): 1:00 - 1:50pm

Monday/Wednesday

Fencing: 7:00 - 8:00pm

Monday

Japanese II: 3:15 - 5:30pm

Tuesday

Phys 121R (recitation): 2:00 - 4:00pm

Thursday

Phys 121L (lab): 6:30 - 9:00pm

Well, that’s the gist of it. I love college life, it’s so much better than that linearly-designed 7-8-hours-a-day high school BS that you have to go through. Here, it’s more dynamic and flexible… and I like dynamic and flexible ;) (no innuendo intended). For the most part, I’m trying to get the required and general-education classes done and over with, before I start taking courses toward my major, which will not be ’til next semester. :D

So far... one

Wow… That’s a lot of Physics in a week. I have 5 hours of Physics a week (3 hour lecture on Wednesday mornings, 09:00 - 12:00; 2 hour practical on Monday afternoons, 13:20 - 15:20) and that bores the hell out of me. Although I suppose if that’s what you hope to major in then it is useful. Today in Physics my teacher was away so we had to watch a video on Google videos of a MIT professor doing a lecture on circular motion… zzzzzzzz! And what’s with the ridiculous times on Thursday? Finishing at 21:00? That would really piss me off… such an inconvenient time.

Fencing sounds good though. It’s quite a major sport in Hungary, but I never did it. I did Kobudo instead and particularly concentrated on the Nito-Ken technique. I learnt some essential Japanese words with that too :)
