You heard all about it, Apple is just a commission away from releasing it. The iPhone is a PDA-isque kind of gadget on crack: A phone, an internet surfer, and even a freaking iPod, with widescreen! zomg. And who would have ever guessed… it’s prefixed with “i” as well. It seems Apple is showing off their creative skills with that letter, and has received somewhat of even a cult following now.
Knowing that’s coming… shall we begin some speculation? Will Apple undergo extensive and fortune-draining marketing and promotion campaigns to tell the whole world and Mars that the iPhone is coming? Will all the little iPod fanboys and girls with their spankin’, ergonomic players start going back to their parents saying “Mommy mommy! Daddy daddy! I want an iPhone for Christmas/my birthday/now!” or dive through the remnants of last week’s paycheck or life savings? And about 75% of those parents will either shake their heads and go “oh my god, first the iPod and then this,” or they will rub their hands together in mischief knowing that “if I get my son/daughter/wife one, it gives me an excuse to get one as well!” I think I can already see it: Almost everyone will be owning an iPhone in place of an iPod, and at a projected price of roughly $300 or $400 USD, it’s no farther off than getting, say, an 80GB iPod or a U2 special edition.
Either way, we’ll probably start seeing iPhones instead of iPods in the hands and pockets of the mainstream populace. I’m not sure whether to see that future with optimism or pessimism. I mean, I’ll be dead honest: I hate iPods. There are far better media players out there than this… this… black/white thing with a wheel and a screen on it; however, that’s opening another can of worms that I don’t want to deal with. The iPhone, on the other hand, I dunno. My brother, being a brand-new-cell-phone-every-week kind of person, will probably get sucked in to the craze.
We can only wait and see if the cell phone market will, too, be revolutionized by this iPhone.
