A long time ago, near the beginnings of this blog of many, came a post of a similar topic to this one. The only difference with that past post is that it involves games; this one involves… anime, as part of Problogger’s List Group Writing Project. Because writing in groups is more fun.
So let’s start. Every anime fan could perhaps enjoy this. I’ve been watching anime left and right over the summer, and I’ve found that quite peculiar habits, rules of thumb, and other special advice for the special otakus arise when watching such. Now, it could be an attempt at humor, or perhaps a failed one, for that matter, but here I’m just demonstrating how cool it is to list them, in no particular order.
Things You Learn From Anime
- The major rule of thumb: If it’s got big, sparkly, cute, and colorful eyes, then it’s anime (or manga, if you must).
- When in a sticky situation (or in a “pinch”), force your body (particularly your back head area) to create sweatdrops.
- You have a sudden, evocative, out-of-nowhere interest in Japan and Japanese culture.
- Creating a variety of strange, wacky, and distorted facial expressions, some thought to be humanely impossible, is not a problem and doesn’t take much effort.
- Girls always make a cute sound when taking a bite into something.
- Overreacting and getting frustrated by witty people is common amongst the stubborn types of people.
- It’s not uncommon if you, unknowingly, spout out a few Japanese words here and there.
- Arigatou Gozaimasu (??????????) is a nice word, used a lot.
- It’s necessary to go to school in a uniform. Your casual clothes, as you know it, are forbidden.
- Tea is good.
- Bentou (??) is even better.
- If you don’t live in Japan, manga is considered holy and priceless.
- Dressing up as your favorite characters is the way to go.
- Anything can be overcome if enough energy and frustration is put into it.
- Opening and ending themes are usually good-sounding and worth getting a hold of.
- North American licensing companies are your enemies.
- Fansub groups are your heroes.
- Boys must often go to great lengths to win over a girl, usually by the end of the series. Works for girls too.
- Japanese music is freaking awesome!
- Chibi characters exist.
- Girls have better guns/swords than the guys.
- If the eyes are plain, it’s an irrelevant character, otherwise, it’s an important one. A funny follow-up would be the bigger and more detailed the eyes, the more important the character (not always the case, but a nice general thing often observed).
- You never run out of anime to watch — just time.
- It is difficult to live without seeing the next episode because it won’t come out until next week.
- Fillers are the evil manifestations of the world.
- Glomping is the best way to greet someone.

Very interesting and amusing as well ;). Our list is up if you’d like to look… have a great day!
Anime rocks, great list. If I could only get my wife into it. She doesn’t like any animation. Thank god I have my daughter to watch with me.
MamaDuck and Chris, thank you for visiting and reading.
Chris: It’s a law that there isn’t anybody in the world who doesn’t like anime… they just haven’t found the right series for them to get them hooked on it yet. Perhaps hunting for the right series for your wife to watch will trigger her inner anime craze. I like the fact that you can watch it with your daughter, a nice family thing, no? As for me, I’m the only one in the family who watches it, so I’m a lone wolf for the most part.
MamaDuck: Left a comment on your list post, those are awesome posts from the past.
Heh, I’ve sucked you into the ProBlogger madness!
Anywho, thanks for the comment. Not a bad list here, either. I hear ya’ on just about every one of those points.. and then some.
