Geeky Things, Life, Rants

Yay! They finally posted the winning website designs for ‘06 SkillsUSA.

On a side note, some recent conspiracy theories have arisen about the reasons behind the late posting of the winning designs… almost two weeks after the closing/awards ceremony itself. One possible theory is that by delaying the posting of winning designs, competitors’ interest in the competition will dwindle, and therefore complaints of unfair judgement or accusations of wouldn’t be as severe. Quite a smart move, indeed. Another theory, and one to a less serious degree, is that the administrators were too busy doing their “own little thing” and forgot all about uploading contest results right after the competition itself, and hence the 2 week delay. Who knows — I’m going overboard here.

Now, onto the winning results. This year’s judges suck, and when I say “suck,” it’s an understatement. the judging was so… so horrible that I don’t even know how these websites made the top 3, save it for the Gold and Bronze medalists — those are good…. Silver sucks. No offense… it’s horrible.

Only High School Division:
Gold: Team 11
Silver: Team 10
Bronze: Team 16

And ours: 4th Place: Team 6

And the 30-or-so other websites that I feel (along with many other people) should’ve made top 3. Somebody tell me that this competition wasn’t rigged… or judged in a bullcrap manner?

This, by the way, marks the end of the postings in School ‘06, tune in to School ‘07 for another year of action.

The hell?

I’ll have to agree with you, the judges were on crack or something. Looking at it from a purely aesthetic point of view, 3rd and 4th should have been in first and second.

And do these guys even know anything about website design or standards? Yeah, all of the sites used CSS and XHTML, but the semantics were.. sad to say the least. DIVs should never, ever be used as a replacement for table cells.

Meh. Done synthesizing. The judges sucked, end of story.

Something must have sucked indeed. Anyway, from my point of view, the 3rd (Bronze) should have been first. The 2nd (Silver) should have been somewhere outside the list (probably the worst use of colours on all of them).

I don’t know much about this contest and I don’t know about the other designs, but the overall quality of these 4 designs is not very high…

Pretty poor jugding, out of all the top 3 i liked the 3rd one most. Ohwell. All of them arnt anything spectacular. You could do better than that :P.

Hey, ours rocked. >_< Also, we were given a mere 6 hours to design a fully-fledged website. It's no surprise quality is going to be lower than usual because of that fact alone.

I don’t really care if mine was good enough to win or not, but silver is just horrible, and gold was designed with pure tables… I don’t know what the hell the judges were thinking.

But I do know that everytime I think about it, it ticks me off — the riggedness of this contest. Next year better be more rational.

I do have to agree that number 3 there was the best of the top 3. It’s lovely. Yours though, could have kicked 2nd place’s butt any day. Ick.
