This is a rant about a fellow L2P member, and how he refuses to acknowledge the power of CSS, and the claims he makes about it. My BS meter is skyrocketing right now. Taken from the thread at the L2P forums:
I don’t use css because something I want to do you cant do correctly with CSS and have it look and work exactly the same. Some people just want to use CSS to show off…
Warning, lengthy post defending CSS in a sentimental, logically invalid manner. If you still want to read it for kicks, anyway, go for it.
Everybody wants to show off their mad lmaoroflzorz uber web design skills, whether it’s CSS, non-CSS, pure tables, or old-school layout and formatting. This doesn’t apply to just CSS.
Here is his response to me when I was trying to argue against him in defending CSS:
I don’t want to offend you, but look at your site. its boring and uses CSS. All css sites seem to look the same and I don’t want that boring look.
All CSS sites have a different look… it doesn’t take a genius to recognize the differences in element position, coloring, and organization.
And finally:
So having alot of pages and visitors is an excuse? I bet my site gets more hits than your’s so therefore, its alright for me to use tables. I understand you are going by what other people tell you, which is “only css is the way to go” well its not the real way and the point of web design is to make a site users like and have fun going to. My TABLES work fine and the members love the site and layout. Just because you have something that makes you only want css here and there, doesn’t mean its the way
XHTML is also a standards which is new and I’d hate to break it to you but, XHTML has tables also![]()
So before you start to talk down to me like you actually know what you’re talking about, think about what the entire point is.
ITs almost impossible to create a site like mine that functions the way it does with pure CSS.
That’s just some of the invalid, wrong arguments he made.
Just read the entire thread, and that’s all you need to know. Close-minded, people need to die. I respect some web designers’ choices to use tables to lay out their pages instead of CSS (or combine both tables and CSS), but I DO NOT put up with those who are too ignorant to realize the true power of CSS and refuse to take it into consideration — not to mention make claims about something they don’t even know jack squat about.
Few minutes later, he left another post saying that he’ll start to learn and use CSS more, and has apologized if he frustrated anybody (which includes me and Logan, who tried to defend CSS too). If you’re reading this, Grinch, your apology is accepted, and I wish you luck in your would-be study of CSS. ![]()

S’ok, Alan - you can breathe! Life will go on without them. And then, there will arise a new generation of browsers, even at last a newer version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, and they shall say, “Oh, sh–.”
just realize what you guys are fighting about, take a breath, and laugh.
Hey I feel cool. I made a post about this too.
